Launched the first tram powered by hydrogen fuel

The creation of vehicles using alternative fuels as an energy source is an extremely promising development. And it’s not always about using electricity. For example, recently in China, in the city of Tangshan, Hebei Province, the world’s first tramway, using hydrogen as a fuel, was put into commercial operation.

The new vehicle is reported by Xinhua News Agency. The development was in charge of the China Railway Rolling Corporation (CRRC). As reported in the press release, when driving a tram does not emit any polluting substances. This was achieved due to the fact that the temperature inside the fuel cells that participate in the production of energy is below 100 degrees Celsius, so no harmful nitrogen oxide is formed. The only substance released into the atmosphere is water. Filling the vehicle “to the full tank” lasts about 15 minutes, the fuel is enough to overcome 40 kilometers of the road, and the maximum possible speed of the tram is 70 kilometers per hour. In addition, the distance between the floor of the car and the rails is only 35 centimeters, which allows you to remove the platform,

It should be noted that despite the fact that China was the first to put into operation public transport on hydrogen fuel, the technology of cheap fuel production does not belong to him. It was introduced in September 2014 by Swiss scientists, and in December of the same year, Toyota announced the launch of production of cars using hydrogen as fuel.
